Designer Spotlight: Lyndsey Davis Nicklas

“Working with UMI brings an advantage to our designs that benefits our projects and our clients.” – Lyndsey Davis Nicklas

Meet Lyndsey Davis Nicklas! Lyndsey has been working as an interior designer for the past 15 years and started her very own firm in 2015! She has a unique eye to develop a space for her clients that truly represent their authentic style and flare. See what her favorite style technique is, how she started her design career, and what her top UMI countertop choice is!

Q: Tell us a little about your background.

A: My design background started back in Michigan almost 15 years ago, although I knew I wanted to design interiors much earlier than that. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, my first job was working for a prominent tile and stone showroom as an in-house designer. After moving to Florida, I quickly expanded my career to full Kitchen and Bath Design working for a wonderful local company who helped to develop my design skills for both design and project management. Over the years I found that once the relationship is established with my clients it is most beneficial designing the entire project from the construction to the pillows. The desire to be able to provide a true turnkey experience motivated me to start my own firm in 2015.

Q: What style do you like to design the most?

A: My personal favorite style is mid-century with a little industrial mixed in, but one of my favorite things about working as a designer is being able to design in a variety styles. Southwest Florida has continued to shift and change as the overall design palette has developed a more modern look. However, we get requests from clients to design everything from French farmhouse to coastal chic. It is a joy and a challenge to be able to accommodate our client’s different preferences and be able to design a home that truly speaks to them.

Q: What project are you most proud of?

A: I know it sounds corny to say, but I am truly proud of every project we have been lucky enough to be involved in. Each project is special because we are being trusted to work with our clients in their most personal spaces. After the past year and a half we all realize how important our home is and being able to help make those spaces beautiful is a wonderful experience. Not every project would qualify for the cover of a magazine, but if we left our clients feeling like their space is the best version of them then we did our job right.

Q: Tell us about the photos below.

A: The photos are from a project we completed on Gulf Shore Blvd. We were able to use one of UMI’s staple Pompeii quartz colors Valley Sand. This classic has been around forever, but still seems to do the trick when you need something subtle and modern. We used it as both the countertop and the backsplash for a seamless mid-century look.

Q: What do you enjoy most about UMI Stone?

A: I have been working with UMI for almost 15 years, I have grown with the company and the team there. I remember when a lot of their team members were hired on. It is a great experience to be able to develop alongside my colleagues. UMI offers such a wide selection of materials, showcased in a way that makes selecting material with my clients easy and efficient. The knowledge that the staff has regarding materials is valuable to us as designers as well as our clients and we continue to be educated on new and upcoming products in the stone industry. Working with UMI brings an advantage to our designs that benefits our projects and our clients.

Q: What is your favorite product UMI carries? And favorite color of that product?

A: UMI carries so many great products it is hard to pick one. Everyone here at L Design Studio loves their selection of quartzites and the large selection of leather finished stones. My favorite material to use has been the new Infinity porcelain slabs, the coloration and veining is so realistic it has opened a whole new aspect to designing with a marble esthetic in mind. My favorite Infinity color right now is Classic Statuario Satin.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: What free time….LOL. Any minute I have I love spending with my little nugget, my husband, my family and friends.

Q: How can people get in touch with you if they would like you to design their home?

A: We are available by phone, email, or you are welcome to walk across the street from UMI’s showroom and pop in to say hello. Our contact information is 239-260-5165. Our website is L-DesignStudios.com.
